He is the founding faculty director of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.ucla.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UCLA SPACE Institute<\/a>. His research connects plasma theory, spacecraft observations, modeling, and machine learning for physical science. He received the American Geophysical Union\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.ucla.edu\/dept\/faculty\/professor-jacob-bortnik-wins-joanne-simpson-medal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021
